Distributors Upbeat About Anushka Sharma Starrer Pari

Anushka Sharma has packed a punch and her histrionics should bear fruit. Pari has released today and made the audiences go wide-eyed. However, the only deterrent has been Holi which suddenly gave rise to a lot of theatres in many states (Rajasthan, MP, Chattisgarh, Bihar- to name a few) go shut. This, in turn, might throw up relatively lesser numbers on the box-office of Day 1--- but Day 2, 3 and thereafter should garner good returns.

Says Arjun N Kapoor from KriArj Entertainment (co-producer), "In many places outside Mumbai where theatres did not shut totally, they still opened only after 3 pm."

Adds Kapoor, "But the word of mouth is so good that Saturday and Sunday will prove to be good days for this Anushka starrer. However, states like West Bengal where people celebrated Holi yesterday, have registered extremely good collections on Day 1 itself."

Sanjay Chatar, leading distributor for Central India, says, "Major cinema halls in MP and Chattisgarh areas don't play movies on the Holi day in the morning; if they begin operations they start off only at 6 pm.Rajasthan began only after 4 pm. So the film's business in these crucial territories will only emerge over the weekend."

SpotboyE.com has it that Thane and Pune have registered 80 per cent occupancy in the evening shows and Punjab too is doing well.

But again, there are places like Nizam, Mysore and others down South that are reeling under a theatre strike.

To repeat from our review of Pari, 'Anushka Sharma pulls out all stops and gives perhaps her best performance till date. As Rukhsana, she has a very difficult role which can only bring a lot of questions in your mind: Why are a group of cruel men hunting her down? Why does she frequently put her face in a bucket of water? How can she disappear when she is just right in the room where Parambrata Chatterjee's girlfriend Ritabhari Chakraborty is about to kiss him? Too many questions will haunt you in the first half, but Prosit Roy (director) answers them all in the second with conviction and style.

Watch her in the scene where she looks at Parambrata attending to Ritabhari's phone call. Watch her in the scene when she eats from the dustbin and then settles down on the dining table to devour a full plate of white rice.

The scene where she kills a dog and the morgue guy are the highlights of the film, but in neither of the two nor in any other does Roy go over the top.

Co-producers KriArj Entertainment and Clean Slate Films deserve praise for backing such content and moving away from the norms of the lady in white, haunting songs, purani havelis and dark nights, which could have still governed such a story'.

Pari stars Anushka Sharma, Parambrata Chatterjee, Rajat Kapoor and Ritabhari Chakraborty in the main roles.
